Inspiration

We were both passionate about food and wellness, but we were also facing financial burdens that made it challenging to afford healthy groceries. We recognized the need for a solution that would empower individuals to make informed and affordable food choices, regardless of their financial situation.

What it does

Velde is an innovative app designed to revolutionize the grocery shopping experience. It connects users with nearby stores, provides price comparisons, offers personalized meal suggestions, and educates users on the health impact of their food choices. By streamlining the process of finding and purchasing nutritious food options, Velde aims to make healthy eating more accessible and affordable for everyone.

How we built it

Building Velde was a collaborative effort that involved careful planning, user-centric design, and iterative development. We began by sitting down as a team to brainstorm and conceptualize how Velde could best serve the needs of users from all walks of life. Through in-depth discussions and research, we identified key features and functionalities that would make Velde intuitive, accessible, and impactful.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development of Velde, we encountered a multitude of challenges that tested our problem-solving skills and determination. One of the initial hurdles we faced was the process of collecting and sourcing reliable data for the app. We spent considerable time researching and exploring various data sources to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information presented to users. Additionally, navigating the legal aspects of data collection and usage posed a significant challenge, requiring us to seek guidance and advice from legal experts to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.

Another challenge we encountered was our lack of expertise in design and app development. As university students with limited experience in these areas, we had to overcome a steep learning curve and invest time in acquiring new skills and knowledge. We relied on online tutorials, courses, and mentorship from industry professionals to enhance our understanding of user interface design, mobile app development, and best practices in UX/UI design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges we faced, we're proud to have developed a functional prototype of Velde that demonstrates the potential to positively impact users' lives. We successfully implemented key features such as price comparison tools, personalized meal suggestions, and educational resources on nutrition, laying the foundation for further development and refinement of the app.

What we learned

Through the process of building Velde, we gained valuable insights into the complexities of the food industry, the importance of user-centered design, and the technical skills required to develop a mobile app. We also learned the significance of collaboration, perseverance, and adaptability in overcoming challenges and bringing a concept to fruition.

What's next for Velde

Moving forward, we plan to gather feedback from users and stakeholders to refine and enhance Velde's features and functionality. We aim to continue expanding our network of partner stores, improving the accuracy of pricing data, and incorporating new features based on user needs and preferences. Ultimately, our goal is to launch Velde worldwide and make a meaningful impact on individuals' health and well-being.
