Inspiration

Our team, comprised of three totally beginner programmers (and one resident computer scientist!), wanted to create some fun games, so we did so in the only way we knew how... Scratch!

What it does

The Scratch That program has 2 games:

  • Friendship Bracelet Maker: an interactive game/tool you can use to design personalised beaded friendship bracelets! Inspired by Taylor Swift :D

  • Cat and Mouse: a smaller game, where a ginger cat is chasing your character, a little mouse. Dodge the cat's lunges to score points!

How we built it

All of the sprites in our two programs were digitally drawn by us!

We tried to figure out all of the scratch programming ourselves; with some long 'if-condition' chains and some perseverance, we successfully built two aesthetic, satisfying games!

Challenges we ran into

None of us had used scratch in a decade, so the programming side of things was totally new to all of us! We had some difficulties arranging the sprites, having to program many individual things!

Also, being pretty new to digital art software, it was quite a challenge designing so many sprites too!

Accomplishments that we're proud of / What we learned

Despite the challenges, we managed to teach ourselves the Scratch language from... scratch. We're super proud of ourselves for this!

What's next for Scratch that!

For the three beginners in our group, perhaps our new Scratch skills need to be taken a step further, and we should learn some common programming languages! Watch this space...
