Inspiration
This project is meant to confront the ongoing lack of recycling at the University of Kansas specifically. While KU has failed to maintain the appropriate level of attention towards recycling we as a group have created this webpage in the hopes that the ease of scanning will encourage recycling even on the go. Recycling, despite it's proven worth to help promote a sustainable environment, is constantly taken lightly and performed improperly. This lack of attention to recycling can in part be held accountable by the uninformed masses on what can and cannot be recycled. Hence, our focus is on portable information on recyclability.
What it does
The webpage, which is mobile and PC friendly, will prompt a user to start up their camera. Once camera is allowed access a user is meant to scan the barcode of the object they wish to learn about. Once scanned the webpage will either prompt the user with a positive message that their item is recyclable, an error that the object cannot be recycled, or a message that while the item is recyclable it must be disposed at a different location which can be found using a given url. The purpose of this is to allow for recycling of glass and other items not campus friendly by providing additional information.
