Inspiration
I was inspired by the idea of day and night. It is always beautiful and adds a lot of details to the game such as the night, starry sky.
What it does
This game is quite simple and cannot be won. The goal of the game is to last as many game days as possible. The game will gradually speed up and the player needs to turn off the lights in the houses in the morning. The larger the house, the more electricity it consumes. The more lights on, the more carbon dioxide emissions. Also, if the player turns off the lights at night, he will receive negative points from people. The more light was turned on, the more negative points the user will receive.
How I built it
The implementation was chosen in a hurry, the reason for which is Rive. The game works using Flame and a lot of pictures.
The game fits any screen size, both phone and browser.
Challenges I ran into
I ran into a lot of problems, particularly with Rive. This tool is new to me and I didn’t know how to use it. It took me a long time to animate the cycle of day and night, with waves of water, twinkling stars and shades of sunset and dawn. And when I finally loaded the animation into the game, the FPS was about 5. There were also defects in the display of the animation; when the gradient changed from dark to light, the entire animation began to blink. I made test animations to reproduce this bug and I reproduced it. Unfortunately, support never gave me an answer why the animation was blinking. There was a week left until the end of the challenge and my animation was broken and there was no city drawn. I had to make not the best decision and yet I made it.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am very glad that I managed to realize my idea. Of course not as planned, but still. As for me it turned out not bad :)
What I learned
Improved my drawing and speed programming skills :) Also got acquainted with Rive and Flame.
What's next for Power Cut
It's added to the list of games I'm proud of. It may not be ideal for others, but for me it's great.
I'll be looking forward to the next competitions on Flutter.
