Inspiration

We wanted to help people around the school environment who might be too afraid to ask for directions.

What it does

Our project creates a path of directions a student can follow to their class.

How we built it

We built A.I.D. Mapping using an API provided by MappedIn. Their code was open source, but we modified it to fit the school environment.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into significant challenges when we learned that the API was written in TypeScript. Only one person on our team was proficient in TypeScript, so we learned from him.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment we are proud of is multi level pathfinding. This feature allows the directions created by the map to travel through stairs and elevators to the upstairs.

What we learned

Everyone in our group learned enough TypeScript to sufficiently code something else in TypeScript in a future Hackathon. We also learned that mapping can be made simple using open source API's.

What's next for A.I.D. Mapping

The future for A.I.D. Mapping is to integrate the program into school website to be readily available to all students with an internet access. This could make navigation less confusing on the first day of school or when a class changes locations.
