Inspiration

Period poverty is a very neglected public health issue. Nearly 500 million people who menstruate lack access to menstrual products and hygiene facilities, which might lead to both physical and mental health issues. We wanted to help people access these menstrual products easily and free of charge. We also wanted to create a platform which allows people who want to donate towards this cause connect with various organizations and provide different ways to contribute towards it.

What it does

Our website helps to connect people who are in need of menstrual products with nearby donation centers(using location trackers) so that they can easily get access to them. It also provides people with an opportunity to donate towards this cause and support it in various other ways such as fundraising, starting a chapter in schools or colleges and spreading awareness about this relevant issue. But our project goes beyond mere convenience. It's about making a tangible difference in people's lives. By streamlining the process of donating and accessing sanitary pads, we're ensuring that those in need can easily find these crucial resources, eliminating the barriers that often stand in their way. Whether you're looking to make a donation or in need of assistance, our platform makes it hassle-free and accessible to all. Join us in revolutionizing the way we support each other and make a positive impact in our communities.

How we built it

We created a prototype for our website using Figma. We also made an innovative algorithm integrated into the Google Maps API. With a simple tap, users can now find the five nearest donation centers from their current location, complete with distances, directions, and estimated travel times, all beautifully displayed on a map.

Challenges we ran into

We started to create a website for our prototype using HTML, CSS and JavaScript but were unable to properly finish it due to lack of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a prototype using Figma that represents our solution towards alleviating this issue of period poverty. We were also able to make an innovative algorithm integrated into the Google Maps API, which allowed users to access donation centers near their location.

What we learned

We learned a lot about building prototypes in Figma and creating the algorithm integrated into the Google Maps API using JavaScript and HTML.

What's next for MenstruAid

We hope that our website draws more attention to this relevant issue and encourages more people and companies to donate towards this important cause.
