Inspiration
We were surprised by the sheer amount of medication that our grandparents and parents used in their daily lives. We have seen the use of physical prescription organizers but we felt with a device such as our phones we could make a more effective and capable alternative.
What it does
Our app MedMinder reminds and helps people remember to take their medications and register them using the camera of your phone. It can inform you of conflicting medication and food as well as information on the drug.
How we built with
We used the flutter framework with the dart programming language. Using a physical Pixel 7 or if need be an emulator. We used firebase as a remote database(Could be changed), Flutter Local Notifications, and Isar for the local database. Use of editors were either Android Studio or Neovim.
Challenges we ran into
Working together and establishing times to meet up was sometimes a challenge on top of getting our technologies to work together in a cohesive manner as well as making the user experience as friendly as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of being able to implement complex technologies like optical character recognition, app database, and push notification systems to effectively solve a pervasive problem.
What we learned
We learned how to communicate effectively and build teamwork to create the best solution that we could. We knew that the better that we communicated the better chance we could have of making a more effective solution. We also learned a lot about Flutter and Dart.
What's next for MedMinder
We are planning on adding support for voice recognition so a person could just say the directions of the prescriptions and interpret them with audio as opposed to using the camera. I also feel as if the UI and UX can be improved in multiple areas.
