Inspiration

Imagine a world where people with visual impairments can explore their surroundings independently, using sound to paint a vivid picture. This was the inspiration behind HeyHoo, a voice-controlled assistant tool that translates visual information into an auditory experience.

What it does

HeyHoo acts as a bridge between the visual world and those who experience it differently. Using your voice, you can point the device towards an object or area, and HeyHoo will describe it in detail. It can identify objects, describe scenes, and even read text aloud.

How we built it

HeyHoo utilizes a combination of object recognition technology and natural language processing. The device captures its surroundings with a camera, and the software identifies objects in its field of view. It then translates this information into clear and concise voice descriptions.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an accurate and descriptive voice experience presented a unique challenge. Finding the right balance between factual information and sensory detail was crucial to ensure users could build a mental picture of their surroundings.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to empower people with visual impairments to navigate their world with greater independence and confidence. HeyHoo fosters inclusivity by providing a voice-controlled solution that doesn't rely on sight.

What we learned

Developing HeyHoo highlighted the power of technology to bridge sensory gaps and create a more inclusive world. We learned the importance of user-centered design and the need for diverse perspectives when building assistive tools.

What's next for HeyHoo

We're constantly innovating! Our focus lies on expanding HeyHoo's object and scene recognition capabilities, including features like facial recognition and real-time object tracking. We also aim to integrate with existing accessibility tools for a seamless user experience.
