Inspiration

Seeing the financial struggles and barriers faced by underrepresented communities, we felt a strong urge to level the playing field. Everyone deserves access to sound financial education and tools tailored to their unique needs.

What it does

FinanShell bridges the financial literacy gap for underrepresented communities. Through a blend of tailored educational content, credit awareness tools, community forums, and intuitive budgeting solutions, we're redefining inclusive banking.

How we built it

We harnessed the power of the T3 stack (Next.js, Prisma, and tRPC). Our interface leverages Tailwind CSS for a responsive and modern design. To simulate real banking transactions and data, we integrated the Plaid API, though we had to use a sandbox environment due to API key constraints.

Challenges we ran into

The Plaid API integration posed significant challenges. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't access a Plaid API key. This meant we had to creatively work around it by simulating a sandbox environment. Another challenge was styling our website to make it both functional and visually appealing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely proud to say that, despite the hurdles, the majority of the website and its features are complete and functional. The design, thanks to Tailwind CSS, is clean, intuitive, and aligns with our vision. Our first foray into developing with Next.js was a resounding success.

What we learned

This project was a deep dive into the world of Next.js, offering us first-hand experience with its capabilities. We also got acquainted with tools like Clerk and Prisma. Styling the website was an invaluable lesson in UI/UX, teaching us to marry form and function.

What's next for FinanShell

We plan to further enhance FinanShell by implementing more in-depth modules. Our immediate next step would be securing the Plaid API key to shift from our sandbox environment to a fully-fledged banking simulation. We also hope to expand our community features, strengthening the bond among users.
