Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was considering the lack of assistive technology for visually impaired people and trying to find a cheap and easy-to-implement solution.
What it does
It is a website that will use NFC chips to track the usage of exercise equipment and show which equipment is already in use ahead of time. It will also allow visually impaired individuals a simple tap interface to get audio instructions about the layout of the gym and how to use various equipment.
How we built it
We used typescript and react to build a website and launched it through Netlify. The intention is that different urls saved on different NFC chips lead to different webpages relevant to the equipment the respective NFC tag is attached to.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges getting started with web development, including how to format the site correctly, adding text-to-speech, and getting multiple sub-pages with different urls.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As this is our first time doing web development, we are proud of how much we have learned and implemented in such a short time.
What we learned
We have learned a lot about how to get started with web development and how to use typescript and css to implement various functions like text-to-speech.
What's next for EZ Repz
It would be nice to create a more polished version as well as add customizability such that individual gym owners could easily get it up and running in their gym.
