Inspiration

As our world becomes more digital, threats online are becoming more prevalent, threatening our digital security and privacy. In 2023, there was a 72% increase in data breaches since 2021, which held the previous record. Alarmed by how one of our friends uses the same password for all her accounts, we decided to build an interactive website that teaches about intermediate cybersecurity concepts, with a target audience of college students.

What it does

Our website provides an interactive experience, blending web design with digital storytelling to inform the users of cybersecurity concepts. Our website first introduces what cybersecurity is, goes through common cybersecurity mistakes, and dives deeper into the topic of encryption.

How we built it

Our website is built on Readymag, a website framework application. We also coded elements in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using Visual Studio code as our code editor.

Challenges we ran into

This was our group's first ever hackathon, and going into this experience we didn't know what to expect and didn't have many applicable skills. So our biggest challenge was figuring out what we were supposed to be doing and developing the needed skills to build our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Our project/domain name is a play on words. Encrypt EdU, EncryptEd U!
  • Our Caesar cipher demo ## What we learned
  • Learned how to implement JavaScript code into a website. ## What's next for EncryptEdU Since we were limited by time, we couldn't include all the cybersecurity concepts that we would like. Moving forward, we will continue adding more content to our website to provide a more comprehensive look into cybersecurity.
