We were inspired to build this app because we wanted to make a positive change in our community and raise awareness about the dangers of a high carbon footprint when it comes to global warming and how individuals can take positive steps to lower their carbon footprint and help protect the planet.
The app's purpose is to use an interactive questionnaire to help users track their carbon footprint. It then shows them an estimate in lbs of their monthly carbon emissions, a relative ranking, as well as useful feedback to improve.
We built the front-end using React Native and ran it with Expo Client. We used NodeJS and MongoDB for the backend (eg. storing login credentials, emissions, etc.).
Some challenges we ran into were effective communication but we were able to solve them by getting each other's contact information and regularly checking up on each other's progress.
Accomplishments we are proud of is our end result, which is the app itself. It took a lot of hard work and dedication on our end to get the app to where it is today.
We learned just how difficult it is to build and debug an app from start to finish, and we also learned valuable life skills of communication and collaboration.
We could incorporate a better ranking systems that compares all the users who take the quiz and also provide more personalized feedback for our users.
