Inspiration
College students whose knowledge in cooking was very limited, leading to food waste, and for those who preferred the easier, pre-made junk food everyday that could be delievered to there doors instantly. Also for college students who needed activites to relieve themselves of everyday stress. Cook a'Holic isn't only reserved for college students though.
What it does
Users enter specific ingredients that they have available into their pantries into our Cook a'Holic software which matches them up to recipes that can make the most of their items. Depending on the scarcity, Cook a'Holic may suggest recipes that include extra ingredients while working to maintain the nutritional value we strive for. Cook a'Holic not only eliminates the waste of food products and ensures healthier lives, but enables college students to destress from their overwhelming studies and to enjoy a new hobby.
How we built it
We used databases that contained ingredients for specific recipes. Then we coded multiple different front end pages that connected with the information that was stored in the back end. Everytime an ingredient was added, the database would match it with three recipes that we would find and display in the front end by fetching data.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into multiple challenegs trying to connect the front end to the back end, especially when we tried to store log in information from the user. We also had trouble with using the databases to match the proper recipes with the ingredients the user inputted.
What we learned
Coding is hard, but we can always learn new and interesting ways that helps solve our problems. even though making harder developmental apps is hard, the effort we put in taught us a lot that we can apply in the future.
What's next for Cook a'Holic
-More clean up on the CSS -A tailor fit user platform that accomodates to the desires of every user depending on the meals they have cooked in the past and their preferences.
