Inspiration
Our inspiration for Celestial Body Guesser came from the popular game GeoGuessr, which challenges players to guess the location of various places around the world using only visual clues. We wanted to create a similar concept but with a focus on celestial bodies, particularly planets, to spark curiosity and learning about astronomy among kids aged 7-9.
What it does
Celestial Body Guesser is a mini-game where players are presented with 3D models of different celestial bodies. Using visual cues and hints provided, players have to guess the name or identify the celestial body. The game aims to make learning about celestial bodies fun and interactive.
How we built it
We built Celestial Body Guesser using HTML, JavaScript, Three.js, CSS. HTML provided the structure of the game, CSS styled the elements to make them visually appealing and helped in making the design responsive and user-friendly. JavaScript was used to handle game logic and interactions, while Three.js facilitated the rendering of 3D graphics for an immersive experience.
Challenges we ran into
As beginners in web development, we faced several challenges throughout the development process. Understanding and implementing Three.js for 3D rendering was particularly challenging due to its complexity. Additionally, integrating different technologies seamlessly and ensuring cross-browser compatibility posed significant hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite being beginners, we're proud to have developed a functional mini-game that combines various technologies and provides an engaging learning experience for our target audience. Overcoming technical challenges and seeing our ideas come to life has been immensely rewarding.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we learned valuable skills in web development, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and utilizing libraries like Three.js. We also gained insights into game design principles and techniques for creating an intuitive user interface. Furthermore, we learned the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance in the face of challenges.
What's next for Celestial Body Guesser
In the future, we aim to further enhance Celestial Body Guesser by adding more levels with increasing difficulty, incorporating educational content about stars and constellations, and refining the user experience based on feedback. We also plan to explore additional features such as multiplayer mode and integration with educational platforms to make learning about astronomy even more accessible and enjoyable for kids.
