Our Inspiration: Intersections with Healthcare
Cost of childcare has increased by 2000 percent since the 1970s According to a US Department of Agriculture report, the average middle-income family spends between $12,000 and $14,000 on child-related expenses each year. Keeping this in mind, we developed BabyBear, for all those new parents who have questions and concerns about their little one but couldn't go to the hospital every single time. BabyBear is meant for all those little bundles of joy to be given utmost care and love.
What is BabyBear?
Our solution to this problem was to create a website called BabyBear. This website connects healthcare consultants and doctors with parents anonymously. A parent can fill out a short survey, with a subject line, child’s age, child’s diet type, child’s gender, and a description of the issue they have identified. The doctors will be able to view all posts without knowing which user made the most, protecting the privacy of the user.
How We Implemented It
In order to implement the backend, we used Flask with various http protocols and the language python. For the frontend, we used html, javascript, and css. To store the data within each post, we used sqlite3 to create a database. This way we can save the data even if the server goes down.
Some Challenges ...
We ran into challenges regarding the framework and the UI of the website. We learned about render_template from the mentors in order to integrate the usage of Flask with css.
Accomplishments we are proud of!
We are proud of our initial idea and with challenging ourselves to keep at the bugs we ran into. We are proud of our vision and effort, and hope to continue this project throughout the quarter so that it is fully implemented. We learned how to use so many new tools in just two days as beginner hackers, and would love to continue to grow.
