Inspiration

Transgender healthcare is so difficult to receive, even in "progressive" places. So many different obstacles prevent transgender people from being themselves. We were hoping to create a project using technology that would both provide a sense of community for queer people, and raise some awareness too. The track speakers also showed us the different ways that queer people are disadvantaged, which gave us ideas and inspiration for different projects/routes we could take.

What it does

Allynd is an app that connects queer people in need of gender-affirming procedures in other states/cities to community members who want to provide housing to help them!

How we built it

We ideated and wireframed using Figma. Then, we designed more in Adobe Illustrator, and implemented it using Flutter! :)

Challenges we ran into

We were quite ambitious with our app, so we weren't able to finish implementing everything. Additionally, a landing page was supposed to be made but technical difficulties and sleep deprivation prevented a successful landing page :(

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the teamwork, ideating, designs, and final app we've created.

What we learned

We learned how to data scrape (thank you to the workshop hosts!), more about web development, and designing on Figma.

What's next for Allynd

The next steps for us would be to market our product and reach out to people who want to provide a place to stay for queer folks looking for temporary housing. For the app itself, we want to implement a chat feature and more advanced onboarding, as well as background screening for the volunteers.
